Pricing Executive – Freight Forwarding (Import/Export, UK & EU)

Job Summary

We are looking for a Pricing Executive – Freight Forwarding to join our Pricing / Commercial team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate, competitive, and timely freight quotations for import and export shipments, primarily across the UK and EU.

The role requires strong knowledge of freight forwarding costs, carrier and agent rates, customs charges, haulage, and other applicable surcharges, along with the ability to build commercially competitive quotations while maintaining appropriate profit margins.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare accurate freight quotations for FCL, LCL, groupage, and road freight shipments.
• Handle pricing for UK–EU import and export shipments and other trade lanes as required.
• Calculate freight and associated charges, including:
• Ocean / road freight
• Terminal Handling Charges (THC)
• Customs clearance and documentation fees
• Haulage and delivery charges
• Demurrage, detention, and storage
• Peak season and congestion surcharges
• BAF / CAF and other carrier surcharges
• Insurance charges where applicable
• Ensure quotations reflect current market and carrier/agent rates.
• Maintain rate validity and apply appropriate profit margins according to company pricing policies.

Carrier & Agent Rate Management

• Liaise with shipping lines, hauliers, and overseas agents to obtain competitive rates.
• Negotiate freight rates where appropriate.
• Maintain an updated database of carrier, agent, and trade-lane rates.
• Monitor market trends, rate increases, and carrier surcharge updates.

Customer & Sales Support

• Respond promptly to customer and sales team pricing requests.
• Prepare clear and professional quotation breakdowns.
• Provide information regarding rate validity, transit times, routing, and applicable charges.
• Follow up on quotations to support conversion into bookings.
• Assist the Sales team with tender and contract pricing for key accounts.

Internal Coordination

• Coordinate with Sales, Operations, and Customs teams regarding pricing and confirmed shipments.
• Communicate rate changes, schedule updates, and transit-time changes to relevant teams.
• Ensure smooth handover of confirmed bookings to the Operations team.

Reporting & Record Keeping

• Maintain accurate records of quotations and rate history.
• Track quotation activity and win/loss performance.
• Monitor competitor rates and market trends.
• Prepare regular pricing reports for management.

Requirements

• Previous experience in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or commercial pricing.
• Strong understanding of UK/EU import and export freight operations.
• Experience handling freight quotations and rate calculations.
• Knowledge of ocean freight, road freight, customs, haulage, and related charges.
• Strong negotiation and communication skills.
• Good numerical and analytical abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other standard office tools.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet quotation deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working with UK/EU freight forwarding trade lanes.
• Existing knowledge of shipping lines, hauliers, freight agents, and European logistics networks.
• Experience with FCL, LCL, groupage, and road freight pricing.
